My SIL, Jerilynn, wrote a while back about memory pieces. I thought I would write about 2 memories I have of both my Grandmothers.
The first one is a Tea Cart that my Grandma Hedger always had as long as I can remember.
I used to play with it and when I was younger I thought it was sooo cool.
When she passed away 6 years ago, and we were cleaning out her house, I decided to keep the cart and bring it to my house. It always housed her fancy coffee cups and saucers with the gold trim. Today it is in my kitchen holding my small collection of cook books and nick-nacks.
The second memory is not an item, but a smell that will forever and ever remind me of my sweet Nano. It is the smell of Spice Tea. The orange clove type smell. My Nano always had a jar made up for us kids when we came to see her. The women would always be in the kitchen talking and drinking coffee, and us kids got to have a warm cup of spice tea. Yumm! My mom gave me a box of potpourri the other day that smells just like Nano's spice tea. I lean over and get a good sniff every day.
What would we do without our memories of the dear people we love. My poor Nano who has Alzheimer's is loosing hers everyday. How sad to have all of those vanish. I can only pray that this horrible disease will not touch anyone else in this family.
